Gold Headlines: Sunday 2 August 2026

Gold ends the week holding above $4,000

Spot gold closed the week at around $4,044 per ounce, with markets shut for the weekend. When trading resumes on Monday, analysts at LiteFinance expect the metal to trade in a range of roughly $4,060 to $4,114, keeping the four thousand dollar floor firmly in view.

Central banks still on course for 850 tonnes this year

The World Gold Council forecasts central banks will buy roughly 850 tonnes of gold in 2026, almost matching last year, per Mining.com. Official buyers have stayed firm even at record prices, continuing the diversification away from the dollar that has underpinned this bull market.

India: smaller volumes, record spending

Indian gold demand eased by volume in the second quarter as high prices and policy measures weighed on buying, yet total spending still reached a record for a second quarter, per the World Gold Council's Gold Demand Trends. The Reserve Bank of India has continued adding to reserves, which now stand at over 820 tonnes.

The forecast tug of war: $6,000 or a pullback?

J.P. Morgan Global Research analysts expect gold to push towards $6,000 per ounce by year end, with $6,300 possible in 2027. On the other side, OCBC Bank expects prices to soften into the end of 2026 on rising Treasury yields and a stronger dollar. The disagreement itself tells the story: nobody is calling this market quiet.

Miners pushed to new frontiers

Depletion, lower ore grades and higher prices are driving miners towards the Arctic and even the deep sea, where mining is now entering a regulatory fight, per Mining.com. New supply keeps getting harder to find, and that scarcity is part of what keeps the long term case for gold intact.
