Layaway, the Chapman way
There is only one true money. Gold. And there is only one true way to own it: outright.
The modern world runs on borrowed money. Credit cards, buy now pay later, interest that compounds quietly against you. It is sold as convenience, and it works by tricking good people into swapping the long term gain for the short term feeling. Debt takes the future earnings of a family and hands them to a lender, and the cost lands on the kitchen table: stress, arguments, sleepless nights, and children who grow up watching it.
Chapman Gold is dedicated to building a debt free culture. We believe in living within one's own means, in patience, and in saving towards the things worth having. Gold has rewarded patience for five thousand years. Nothing we sell will ever be financed, and we will never charge a penny of interest. Instead, we offer layaway: the old, honest way to buy something precious.
How layaway works
You choose the piece. We take it off sale everywhere and keep it safe, insured and stored, in your name. You pay for it in parts, on dates you choose, with no interest, no credit checks, no debt, and no penalties of any kind. When the final payment arrives, the piece is dispatched to you fully insured. You have saved, not borrowed. That is the whole idea.
- Reserve with a deposit of 25 percent or more (30 percent on pieces over £2,000), plus a one off admin and storage fee of 2 percent of the item price (capped at £500).
- Choose your schedule: weekly or monthly payments over up to 90 days. That is three monthly payments, or up to twelve weekly ones. The same 90 day maximum applies to every piece, whatever it costs.
- We remind you by email seven days before each payment date. No surprises.
- Change your mind in the first 30 days and every penny you have paid towards the item comes straight back to you, only the fee is kept. After 30 days a fair holding charge applies for the time your piece has been off the market: 3.5 percent of the item price per full month reserved, always capped at your deposit, and halved if you take your refund as Chapman credit. It is printed here so you know it before you begin.
- Final payment made: your piece is on its way, fully insured, in a Chapman presentation case.

The Chapman Gold Layaway Agreement
This agreement applies to every layaway plan opened with Chapman Gold Ltd (company no. 17230480). It is written in plain English on purpose. Layaway is saving, not borrowing: nothing in this agreement creates credit, interest or debt of any kind.
- Reservation. Your item is reserved exclusively for you on receipt of a deposit of at least 25 percent of the item price. From that moment it is withdrawn from sale on our website and on every other channel we sell through, and it stays withdrawn while your plan is active.
- Admin and storage fee. A one off fee of 2 percent of the item price, capped at £500 per item, is payable together with your deposit. It covers the administration of your plan and the secure, insured storage of your item while we are responsible for it, and it reflects the time your item is unavailable to other customers. This fee is non refundable in all circumstances.
- Payments. The remaining balance is paid in the instalments and on the dates agreed when the plan is opened, weekly or monthly, over a term of up to 90 days, which is three monthly payments or up to twelve weekly ones. The 90 day maximum applies to every plan, whatever the item costs. Your price is locked for the life of the plan while it is in good standing. We will email you a reminder seven days before each payment date. We never charge interest and we never charge for paying late.
- Changing your mind. Cancel within 30 days of opening your plan and every payment you have made towards the item (deposit and instalments alike) is refunded in full, promptly and without question; only the clause 2 fee is kept. After 30 days, a holding charge applies, reflecting the time your item has been withdrawn from sale for you: 3.5 percent of the item price for each full month since reservation, and never more than your deposit. Take your refund as Chapman store credit and the holding charge is halved. There is no interest and there are no late fees, ever. Refunds are made only to the original payment method.
- Missed payments. A missed instalment costs you nothing: we simply get in touch, and you have 14 days to catch up or rearrange the schedule with us, which we will always do gladly. If two instalments in a row are missed without a word from you, the plan is treated as abandoned: it closes, the deposit is retained as the holding charge for the months your item was held off the market, anything you have paid above the deposit is refunded to your original payment method, and the item returns to sale.
- Delivery. Your item is dispatched on receipt of the final payment, fully insured by Royal Mail Special Delivery, in a Chapman presentation case.
- Not credit. Layaway is not a credit agreement. There are no credit checks, no interest, no fees beyond clause 2, and nothing is ever reported to any credit agency. You are saving for your item; we are keeping it safe while you do.
- Sensible limits. Payments must come from the buyer's own payment method, never a third party. A customer may hold up to two layaway plans at any one time. Every plan continues on the terms it was opened with. If we ever change these terms, the change applies only to plans opened after it, never to yours.
- Your statutory rights are unaffected.
