This dainty yet distinctive ring is from Shaun Leane’s acclaimed Maybell collection (launched 2011), inspired by the delicate beauty and purity of the woodland Maybell flower (lily of the valley). The collection celebrates graceful racemes, bell-shaped blossoms, and fluid gold curves — hallmarks of Leane’s romantic, nature-inspired aesthetic. Stems of Maybells trace the finger while diamond-set flowers add subtle shimmer, making it an everyday heirloom that perfectly embodies the designer’s signature blend of organic form and exquisite craftsmanship.
About the designer – Shaun Leane
Shaun Leane (born 8 July 1969 in London) is one of Britain’s most celebrated contemporary jewellers and a four-time winner of the prestigious UK Jewellery Designer of the Year award (2004, 2005, 2009, 2010), plus the Outstanding Contribution to the Industry award (2021).
Leaving school at 15, he trained through a rigorous seven-year apprenticeship at English Traditional Jewellery in Hatton Garden — London’s historic jewellery quarter — mastering classical goldsmithing, intricate diamond setting, antique restoration (Victorian, Art Nouveau, Art Deco), and high-end commissions for Bond Street houses including Mappin & Webb, Garrard, and Asprey. He also studied jewellery design and silversmithing at Kingsway Princeton College and Sir John Cass College.
In the early 1990s, Leane began a legendary 18-year collaboration with Alexander McQueen (starting with McQueen’s 1994 Highland Rape show). He created some of the most iconic sculptural jewellery and couture pieces in fashion history, including the aluminium Coil Corset (The Overlook, AW99), Spine Corset, Rose Corset, Jawbone Corset, Yashmak Armour, and many more. These groundbreaking works are now in the permanent collections of the Victoria & Albert Museum (London) and the Metropolitan Museum of Art (New York), and featured prominently in the Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty exhibitions.
In 1999 Leane founded his eponymous fine jewellery house, producing timeless yet innovative collections that blend traditional handcraft with modern design. His pieces have been worn by royalty (including engagement rings for Princess Beatrice and pieces for the Duchess of Cambridge), celebrities such as Kate Moss, Emma Watson, Björk, Daphne Guinness, and Sarah Jessica Parker, and are sought after by collectors worldwide. Sotheby’s has described his jewellery as “antiques of the future.”
The Maybell ring is a perfect example of Leane’s post-McQueen fine jewellery: wearable, poetic, and expertly crafted — a true collector’s piece from one of the most influential British jewellers of the 21st century.
